WyHy Federal Credit Union Identity Theft program

IDSafeChoice smThis is the blanket recovery only program provided as a no cost benefit to all WyHy members. The product features are:

  • Available only to members of the covered group
  • No cost to members of the covered group – paid by sponsor
  • No sign-up with provider required to participate
  • Covers all types of identity theft
  • Fully managed recovery with a personal recovery advocate

IDSafeChoice Plus smA complete identity theft plan that provides the most comprehensive benefits package available, containing the four basic identity theft program components:

  • Personalized Recovery Plan
  • Limited POA, no Legwork
  • Assures Completed Recovery
  • Assigned Personal Advocate

The Plus Product offers fully managed recovery, plus an annual credit report, continuous credit monitoring, a generous expense reimbursement plan and an educational newsletter and protection test. The program is voluntary purchase with Individual and Family coverage available. Members enroll online by going to www.wyhy.org and clicking on the Safe Choice button. It is up to you how you pay, your options are monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annual credit or debit card charge. It requires that you give your name, address, telephone and e-mail address to enroll. The Fulfillment kit is provided immediately online.

There is a toll free Victim Hotline available only to Plus members. The Expense reimbursement includes up to $25,000 for the expense plan to reimburse any expenses incurred in recovering your identity. Reimbursement is provided through AIG Insurance, there is no deductible and up to $6250 per week in lost wage reimbursement to the program limit of $25,000 is included. Expenses cover such items as court costs, affidavits, attorneys, etc. This does cover self-employed persons. The educational portion of the coverage includes: Online protection test with personalized plan based on responses. Special reports on new “tricks of the trade” and the Personal protection newsletter.

Costs for the IDSafeChoice sm plan are:

Individual Plan

Family Plan

  • $5.95 per month
  • Fully managed recovery for plan member
  • Credit report, score and monitoring for plan member
  • Expense reimbursement for plan member
  • Newsletter and protection test to plan member
  • $9.95 per month
  • Fully managed recovery for plan member, spouse or domestic partner and all eligible dependents up to age 25
  • Credit report, score and monitoring for any two family members
  • Expense reimbursement for entire family, per person, per event

What happens when someone becomes a victim?

For the IDSafeChoice sm program the victim will contact WyHy and be referred to a designated point of contact.

For the IDSafeChoice Plus sm program the victim will call the 800 # to report the identity theft event. This number can be found in the Welcome packet that you will receive upon enrollment.

When you should be referred for services?

  • Anyone who becomes a victim of any type of identity theft
  • Anyone whose personal information is compromised – sell Plus coverage for monitoring
  • Anyone who reports lost or stolen CC, DC, check book, wallet, etc.
  • Anyone who reports suspected fraud activity on an account
  • Anyone who suspects fraud activity on their credit report (during a loan application process)

What is a compromised identity?

  • Wallet or purse is lost or stolen
  • Consumer is not yet a victim of identity theft; he may well become a victim of that crime in the future
  • Consumer is at increased risk of becoming a victim because it is known that some of his personal information is now outside his control and potentially in the hands of someone whose intentions are criminal
  • Best early warning system is credit monitoring.

Common Misconceptions

  • It won’t happen to me
    • Frightening statistics suggest 1 in 23 will be a victim
  • I’m very careful
    • No way to know what others do with personal information
  • I purchased a plan already
    • Check for 4 components and fully managed recovery
  • I have insurance that will pay for my losses

  • My credit card company already protects me

    • No help for any other fraudulent acts – utilities, contract, criminal acts
